EKHA Holds Public Hearing On Two Bills

The Ekiti State House of Assembly has organised a Public Hearing on two bills in furtherance of its legislative actions on the bills.
The bills are a bill for a Law to establish a Peace Corps for the safety of life and properties and the State Water Corporation (Amendment) bill, 2012.
The Peace Corps bill seeks for the establishment of a Corps to assist law enforcement agencies in the maintenance of communal peace, while the amendment to the water corporation bill seeks to inaugurate a Board for effective management of the corporation with the intention of improving the supply of portable water in the state.
Speaking at the occasion held at the Assembly complex in Ado Ekiti, the Chairman of the House committee on Security, Hon Churchill Adedipe said the hearing was organised to allow members of the public make make inputs into the bill.
He described the bill as another positive step of the state Government at ensuring good governance in Ekiti State.
Hon. Adedipe, who is also the House Majority Leader, promised that the Assembly would critically look into the submissions of participants with a view to enacting a law that would add value to governance in Ekiti State.
Also, the chairman of the House committee on Public Utilities, Hon Boluwade Bolics Kehinde called on participants on the water corporation bill to make positive inputs into the bill. Hon. Boluwade promised that their submissions would be considered by the committee.
Participants at the Peace Corps Hearing, described the bill as timely and observed that its passage would complement the efforts of security agencies in maintaining peace in Ekiti State.
The representative of the State Governemnt at the Hearing, Hon. Oladapo Karounwi debunked insinuations that the members of the Peace Corps would be used for political gains. Hon. Karounwi, who is former Deputy Speaker of the House, said the Peace Corps would only be saddled with the responsibility of maintaining peace and resolution of disputes through mediation and conciliation.

In their contributions, participants at the amendment to the Water Corporation bill also canvassed for a speedy passage of the bill, stressing that its passage would go a long way to boost supply of potable water to homes in the state.
Participants at the two Hearings cut across stakeholders such as Civil Defence Corps, the Police Community Relations Committee, the Federal Road Service Corps, representatives of the State Ministry of Information, headed by its Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Adekunmbi Obaisi, officials of the State Water Corporation and the state Water Sanitation Agency.
Meanwhile Ekiti State House of Assembly has called on the State Bureau of Lands to make lands available to the people at affordable rates.
The Chairman of the House committee on Lands, Housing and Environment, Hon. Kayode Fasakin made the call at a meeting with officials of the Bureau at the Assembly complex in Ado Ekiti.
Hon. Fasakin who lamented the high cost of land in the state called on stakeholders to urgently look into ways to make lands available to the people, most especially civil servants.
The Lands and Housing Committee Chairman said the gesture would enhance the success of the eight point agenda of the Fayemi administration.
He promised the support of the Assembly to the Bureau in achieving positive results in this regard.
