Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has described as untrue the rumours making the rounds on the alleged plan by the government to sack some Local Government workers in the State.
The Governor cleared the air in Ado Ekiti on Friday while distributing cheques worth N121,150,000 as Housing and Car loans to 383 beneficiaries of the Local Government Loans scheme.
Governor Fayemi said government had neither retrenched nor have any plan to retrench the council workers; adding that the ongoing sanitation of the system should not be confused for retrenchment.He explained that the ongoing sanitation was aimed at proper placement of staff for optimal performance as well as rid the system of people who have exceeded their years of service at the council through age falsification and other fraudulent means.
The Governor advised that anyone who claimed to have been retrenched without justifiable reasons should protest the gesture through appropriate channels so that the case could be looked into.
On the distribution of loans, Fayemi said his administration is committed to the welfare of the workforce and is opening up avenues for them to benefit from government’s largesse.
The loans, he said, is to assist the workers get money to build their personal houses and purchase their cars and consequently have time to focus on the job.
He advised the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the loan for the purpose for which it is meant.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Chief Ranti Adebisi had commended the Governor for the immediate restoration of the Loan scheme and approval for prompt distribution of the loan.
Adebisi added that the Local Government workers are hardworking, honest and responsible people and are worthy partners with government in restoring sanity to the Local Government system.
One of the beneficiaries, Adekile Bosede commended the Fayemi-led administration for approving the loan; saying that the gesture shows that the administration is worker-friendly.
