The people of Efon Alaaye Local Government Area of Ekiti State have adopted Governor Kayode Fayemi for second term in office, on Wednesday.

At an elaborate ceremony held at Ita-Ido, political leaders, traders’ associations, leaders of ethnic groups, youths and other stakeholders converged on the popular intersection for the endorsement.

The resolution of the Efon Alaaye LG asking the governor to stand for re-election in 2014, was presented to the Wife of the Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi, by a prominent leader in the LG, who is also the Chairman, Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State, Chief Ronke Okusanya. The ceremony coincided with the inauguration of markets stalls and health centres built across communities in the LG, which was attended by the Alaaye of Efon Kingdom, Oba Emmanuel Aladejare and Olori Roseline.

A former Deputy Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly and Special Adviser on Legislative Matters to the Governor, Mr. Dapo Karounwi, was among prominent political leaders at the ceremony.

Rationalising the endorsement, Okusanya noted that the Fayemi-led administration had done in two years what many past leaders could not achieve in four years, adding that the governor’s eight-point agenda was touching the lives of virtually everyone in the state. The projects earlier inaugurated were six Health Centres named after Dr Kayode Fayemi and three open markets named after Erelu Bisi Fayemi all located in the remotest parts of the local government.

Performing the commissioning of the projects located at Ita-Ido; Aladua; Oba-Ayetoro; Alagbamesan; Alawaye; Adagba-Araromi and Alajo communities, Erelu Fayemi commended the local government chairman for bringing governance closer to the people. The governor’s wife described Dr Adio Folayan as a dedicated, committed and a shining example among local government chairmen in the state.

She noted that the significant initiative will bring a lot of benefits to the people of the area as they would no longer travel far before accessing good health services. Erelu Fayemi described her husband as a promise-keeper adding that with the support of all and sundry, government would achieve all the eight-point agenda of the administration.

In his remarks, the council chairman commended the state government for its keen interest in the local government evidenced in the allocation of a new Ambulance to Efon General Hospital and renovation of the six public secondary schools within the LG.

He also applauded the governor’s decision to select the LG as beneficiary of the Millennium Development Goals Conditional Grants Scheme.

Afolayan, who has been able to domesticate the eight-point agenda of Governor Fayemi, stated that his administration had been able to deliver the dividend of democracy to the people.

Erelu Fayemi was in company with former commissioner for women affairs, social development and gender empowerment, Mrs Fola Richie-Adewusi and her Intergration and MDG counterpart, Mrs Bunmi Dipo-Salami among others.

Also on the train were ACN women stakeholders.
