Ekiti State Government has said that it would set up a task force to monitor the operations of Traditional Medicine Practitioners as part of efforts at ensuring quality control in the use of alternative medicine.

The State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Olusola Fasubaa made this known in Ado-Ekiti during a meeting he held with executives and board members of the state chapter of the National Association of Traditional Medicine Practitioners.

Prof. Fasubaa said it was imperative for members of the association to register with the state government in order to have up-to-date information on the practitioners and their products in government’s data base.

The Commissioner also stressed the need for the alternative medicine practitioners to renew their registration on annual basis, adding that it would assist in monitoring their activities to the benefit of all stakeholders.

Commending the association for resolving the leadership crisis that had bedevilled it for some time, he assured the leaders that their requests would be forwarded to relevant government bodies for necessary action.

Earlier, the State Chairman of the Association, Chief Dauda Lawal had requested for a bus from the state government. Chief Dauda also appealed for sponsoring of his members on overseas training, adding that the establishment of a botanical garden would also enhance service delivery of traditional medicine practitioners.
