Residents of Oke-Oniyo in Ado-Ekiti have commended Governor Kayode Fayemi for the construction of drainage which has ensured free flow of rain water in the area.
Showering encomium on the Fayemi led administration during an inspection tour by the State Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Eniola Ajayi, of the on-going flood and erosion control project in the area, a community leader, Chief Abike Olaleye said the drainage have ameliorated the suffering facing the residents of the area during the rainy seasons.
Mrs. Olaleye said the people in the community would be eternally grateful to the administration for coming to their aid.
Another opinion leader in the community, the President of the Youths Association of Oke-Oniyo II, Mr. Idowu Ogunsakin also expressed gratitude to the state government for making the area habitable during the rainy season.
Mr. Ogunsakin therefore pledged the support of the youths of the area to the state government, adding that anybody caught dumping refuse in the drainage would be reported to relevant authorities for appropriate sanctions.
Responding, the Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Eniola Ajayi called on the people of the area to ensure regular maintenance of the drainage and desist from dumping refuse in the canals to allow free flow of water.
Dr. Ajayi also warned that anybody caught defecating in the drainage would be arrested and prosecuted under the environmental and sanitation laws.
She implored the people living in the area to co-operate with the state government by clearing their environment regularly.
