Ekiti State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr. Babajide Arowosafe has charged produce officers in the state to redouble their efforts at generating revenue in the state.
Mr. Arowosafe who gave the charge at a meeting he held with the produce officers in Ado Ekiti, stressed the need to boost the
Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state.
The Commissioner cautioned against total dependence on the monthly allocation from the Federation account, emphasising that the Fayemi led administration has taken concerted efforts to block all revenue leakages in the state.
Stressing the need to put an end to grading of sub-standard cocoa that are being rejected in the international market, Arowosafe said that produce officers must be up and doing in their respective stations.
According to him, it was imperative for the produce officers to expand their scope of operation, saying that they must ensure that fertilizers meant for farmers are not allowed to be smuggled out of the state.
He assured that the state government has commenced an aggressive regeneration of new cocoa with high yield capacity to curb the extinction of cocoa plantations and promised to organise trainings for the officers to improve their capacity for optimal performance and effectiveness.
