Ekiti LGAs To Set Aside 1,000Ha For Tree Planting

Ekiti State Government has directed all the local governments in the state to set aside 1,000 hectares of land for trees planting in their council areas.
The State Commissioner for Environment, Dr. (Mrs) Eniola Ajayi made this known while playing host to the State Trees Growers Association in Ado-Ekiti.
Dr. Ajayi stated that the state government would provide the necessary logistics to encourage large scale trees planting in the state.

The Commissioner promised to liaise with the State Bureau of Lands to make land available to interested individuals and private firms that are willing to plant trees, assured that the state government would assist the association to access soft loans from International Organisations.

She said secondary and tertiary institutions in the state would also be encouraged to plant trees.
Earlier, the President of the Association, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi who described trees planting as a money making venture, appealed to the state government to make trees seedlings available for them.
Another member of the association, Dr. (Mrs) Grace Arowosoye urged the state government to encourage trees planting in order to protect its environment from rainstorm.
