Olayinka’s Death: Ex-Lawmaker, NSCDC Boss, NUJ, Religious Leaders, Financial Institutions Condole Fayemi

More well-meaning individuals, religious groups and corporate organisations on Thursday continued to commiserate with the Government and people of the State on the death of the state deputy governor, Mrs Funmilayo Olayinka.

The former Senator Representing the late Deputy Governor’s Senatorial District, Senator Bode Ola, the national leadership of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), the Catholic Diocese of Ekiti, Ansar Ur Deen Society of Nigeria (AUD), General Overseer of the Sword of the Spirit Ministries, Bishop Francis Wale-Oke and two financial institutions on Thursday visited the State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi to sympathise with him on the demise of his deputy.

Senator Ola who described the death of Olayinka as a great loss to the State said that the late Deputy Governor had contributed a lot to the transformation of the State.

The Catholic Diocese of Ekiti led by the Vicar-General, Very Revd Father Felix Odesanmi expressed great sorrow at the untimely departure of Mrs Olayinka saying that death had been unfair to the State by claiming the life of a woman who was central to the transformation of the State.

The clergyman who commended the roles played by the deceased in the rapid transformation that the State had experienced within two years of the administration added that the Christian folk would not relent in praying for the success of the administration.

Expressing his condolence, the General Overseer of Sword of the Spirit Ministries, Bishop Wale-Oke said his Ministry had come to condole the Governor and pray for him and the State.

Wale-Oke led a prayer session for the State and prayed God to avert any evil of such nature from the State as well as keep the State in peace and comfort.

The National Missioner of AUD,  Sheikh AbdulRaham Ahmad led some of the members of the Muslim society to deliver the society’s condolence message to the Governor.

Others who expressed condolence included the Assistant Commandant General (zone F) of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, Mr Oladipo Jacob, the Managing Director of Fidelity Bank, Mr. Reginald Ihejiahi and his ECOBANK counterpart, Mr Jibril Aku.

It would be recalled that the late Olayinka had worked with Ecobank before joining politics in 2006 and had 21 years of experience working with different financial institutions.

Ecobank in its condolence message said it was “extremely proud of her achievements as Deputy Governor and she would indeed be greatly missed by the Ecobank family and the good people of Ekiti State”.

Meanwhile the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) have joined others to condole Dr Fayemi who was once a member of the profession.

The Union led by its Deputy National President, Mr Rotimi Obamuagun said it was aware of the roles played by Fayemi and Olayinka in “salvaging democracy from the hands of the oppressors at the time”; describing the loss as shocking but urging the Governor to handle the loss with “philosophical calmness” so that the State could continue to progress.

Obamuagun  said the transformational works carried out in the State under the duo’s leadership showed that Olayinka was indeed a cooperating Deputy.

On the cancer menace, the Union charged the Nigerian government to come up with more cancer centres so that people could test themselves so as to find early preventive measure to the disease since there is no known cure yet for cancer.

Meanwhile burial arrangements for the late Deputy Governor would begin in Lagos on Tuesday for the service of songs and commendation service while her remains would be flown to Akure airport on Wednesday where she would be taken to Ado Ekiti, her hometown in a motorcade. She would be buried on Friday, 26^th April.
