The Permanent Secretary of the Office of Establishment and Training, Mr. Lekan Aiyeleso has stressed the importance of in-service training and retraining for efficiency and effectiveness in the civil service.
Speaking in Ado Ekiti while declaring open a 2-day in-house training for junior officers in the Ministry of Women Affairs, Social Development and Gender Empowerment, Mr. Aiyeleso stated that proper training would enhance performance and assist to build a right attitude to work.
The Permanent Secretary who spoke through the Director of Training and Manpower Development, Mr. Oluwadare Jolumo explained that the current training was designed to provide an opportunity to refresh the knowledge of participants.
According to him, general information about registry management, governance as well as rules, regulations, ethics and operations of the civil service would be thoroughly discussed at the training programme.
Mr. Aiyeleso therefore advised participants to be attentive and participate actively in the training in order to benefit maximally from the programme.
The Permanent Secretary emphasised the need for the workers to justify government’s huge investment in them, adding that actualizing the 8-point agenda of the present administration is a top priority for the civil service.
In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Women Affairs, Social Development and Gender Empowerment, Mrs. Peju Babafemi disclosed that over one hundred and thirty officers of the Ministry were trained and retrained in 2011 and 2012 through the in-service training while some other benefitted from other external training programmes.
Emphasising the zero tolerance of the state government for indiscipline and unethical behaviour, Mrs. Babafemi expressed confidence that the training will help inculcate discipline in the workers and boost the image of the civil service in the state.
She urged the participants to pay attention to the resource persons that would deliver papers at the training programme, saying that it would assist them in many sphere of life including the newly re-introduced promotion examination.
