Ekiti State Commissioner for Education Science and Technology Mr. Kehinde Ojo has advised the State Chapter of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria to organise coaching clinics that would encourage secondary school students in the state to develop interest in the study of the Principles of Accounts.
Mr. Ojo gave the advice while receiving the executive members of ICAN in Ado-Ekiti.
The Commissioner who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Bimpe Aderiye said the association should elicit students’ interest in the subject as a first step towards becoming professional accountants, adding that some selected secondary schools may be used as pilots.
Assuring them of the support of the ministry, Mr. Ojo however advised the ICAN executives to submit a formal proposal to the ministry before the commencement of sensitization programmes in schools.
In her remarks, the Chairman of the State’s Chapter of ICAN, Mrs. Ayeni Agbaje explained the association’s mission of going to senatorial districts to organise sensitization programmes on the importance of accounts, the subject required to pursue Accounting in the tertiary institutions and to encourage students to involve
themselves in ATS exams.
Mrs. Agbaje who affirmed that ATS is still relatively new in Ekiti State, disclosed the plan of the association to run clinics whereby students will be priviledged to attend free lectures by weekend to gain more knowledge in the principles of account and secure their interest.
She opined that the establishment of the clinic will increase the numbers of students offering accounting as Ekiti State has good resources that require good accountants for its management.
