17 States Adopt Ekiti Unified Drug Revolving Fund

May 16, 2013

17 states in Nigeria have understudied and are replicating the Ekiti State Unified Drug Revolving Fund System.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ekiti State Primary Health Care Development Agency (PHCDA), Mrs. Folakemi Falore who made this known at a 1-day seminar organised by the agency on “sustainability of the Unified Drug Revolving Fund (UDRF) programme”, said that the affected states sponsored their officials to Ekiti to learn how to successfully operate the UDRF.

Stressing that the system was designed to enhance effective service delivery in the health sector, Mrs Falore noted that it is self-sustaining being a cost recovery venture.

The Permanent Secretary who was represented by the Director Pharmacy, Primary Health Care Agency, Pharm Ade Kolawole said that the Agency carries out regular checks on the extent of compliance by all PHC facilities with the operation guideline, adding that the exercise helps to promptly identify and address areas of need.

In his remarks, the General Manager of the Central Medical Stores, Pharm. Peter Olajiga said that there is no excuse for inefficiency. Mr Olajiga noted that the state government ensured an adequate provision of personnel who are sufficiently trained to avoid the distribution of fake drugs while effectively disbursing drugs to relevant health facilities in the state under the UDRF.

Charging all stakeholders to report any strange channel of drug distribution in the state to relevant agencies, the GM said that the state government would continue to discourage the distribution and use of fake drugs in the state.

Also speaking, the Director, Monitoring and Evaluation, Dr. Olu Aladesuru said that PHCs must develop good data base for effective planning, implementation and thorough supervision of their activities.

He charged the participants to actively participate in the deliberations at the seminar and make judicious use of knowledge gained.
