EKSU: NANS Lauds Fayemi’s Approval Of Payment By Instalments

Students of the Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti on solidarity visit to the State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi in appreciation of the Governor's support for instalmental payment of school fees in the institution.

Students under the aegis of the National Association of  Nigerian Students (NANS) Ekiti State axis have applauded recent  approval of instalmental payment of school  fees for students of  State University (EKSU) by the state Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi .

The students who stormed the Governor’s office at Oke Bareke, Ado -Ekiti on Tuesday, expressed their gratitude to Governor  Fayemi who intervened in the “No school fee, no lecture policy” of the university, which culminated in a faceoff that led to the closure of the school  four weeks. They said the Governor, through his intervention, has further demonstrated his commitment to education.

Governor Fayemi , who is the Visitor  to the institution, had earlier in the week, advised the authorities of the university to allow the students pay their school fees in instalments in view of the economic situation in the country. He also urged the students to reciprocate the gesture by complying with the arrangements put in place by the university authorities for the instalmental payment.

Speaking on behalf of the students, the Chairman of the body in Ekiti State, Comrade Damilare Bewaji, said NANS was not surprised that the Governor introduced the policy of payment by instalments which is the first of its kind in the history of the State, in view of his reputation  as a right activist and a compassionate leader.

They also highlighted the various developments in the education sector of the state, which according to them are fast repositioning education in Ekiti state.

The students brandished placards with different inscriptions including “Ride on people’s Governor”, “Fayemi thanks for Your intervention”, “yes to instalmental payment”, “Salute to Comrade Governor Fayemi” etc

The students’ body also felicitated with Fayemi on his victory at the Supreme Court adding that the verdict had attested to the sanctity of the mandate given him by the Ekiti people in 2007.

The verdict, they said, has helped in ensuring that the various developments in the State did not come to an abrupt end.

Receiving the students on behalf of Governor Fayemi, the Chief of Staff to the governor, Mr Yemi Adaramodu and Special Adviser, Governor’s Office, Chief Biodun Akin- Fasae, said Fayemi has been true to his promises to transform the education sector as seen in the  various programmes in the sector.

Adaramodu who saluted the students for being appreciative of the government’s gesture,  said aside the reduction in tuition fee in October a, Fayemi’s recent approval of instalmental payment shows that the Governor shares the feelings of the students as well as their parents.

He assured that the Governor would not renege on his promises to pay bursaries and scholarships as and when due.

He urged the students  not to allow themselves to be used as political thugs as they are potential leaders who should live honourably.
