Members of the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB), have been charged to engender themselves to the heart of the people by being professional in the discharge of their duties.
Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Professor Modupe Adelabu made this call at the opening of the Chief Executive Officer’s Retreat of NCRIB, held at the Ikogosi Warm Spring Resorts, Ikogosi-Ekiti, advising them to embark on sensitization of the people about the function and integrity of the corporate and individual members to enable it regain the trust and confidence of customers in the insurance industry.
She noted that the theme of the CEO’s retreat which is “Wading Through Change Process: Doing Things Differently” showed that the Council shared the aspiration and determination of the government of Dr. Kayode Fayemi who believed in doing things differently and rightly not minding the challenges, adding that governance in Ekiti under Governor Fayemi is transparent and accountable to the people who are not participants and not just consumers in the process of developing the state.
The Deputy Governor explained that the state also practised a bit of insurance business by assisting the people whenever they are affected by disasters through the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).
Prof. Adelabu emphasised the urgent need for the council to sanitize the insurance sector by exploring and harnessing the various channels of discipline and sanctions that are available to caution and correct erring members and insurance agents so that the negative opinion of many people about insurance brokers and agents will be tackled.
Earlier in her address, the NCRIB President, Barrister Laide Osijo appreciated the crucial support and encouragement professional bodies have been receiving from the government since the inception of Governor Fayemi administration.
She commended the government for the great progress being recorded in the areas of socio-economic development and well being of Ekiti people, remarking that the spate of infrastructural development in all nooks and crannies of the state, and particularly the total reformation of Ikosi Warm Spring Resort is unprecedented in the history of the state.
Osijo took time to educate the audience and the government on the functions and advantages inherent in patronizing registered insurance brokers while soliciting more patronage from the government for its members and the Council in general.
