Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi has called on members of the main opposition party in the State, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to see his victory at the Supreme Court as a lesson for them to put aside partisan interest and embrace his administration’s quest to build a new Ekiti that all will be proud of.
The Governor made the call in Ado Ekiti at a thanksgiving service held at the Government House chapel to mark the victory of the Governor and his party, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) at the apex court after six years of litigations on the 2007 gubernatorial election in the State.
Dr. Fayemi who attributed his victory to God’s mercy said God had allowed the long judicial tussle to show His mightiness and demonstrate that though the journey may be rough and tortuous when one is on the path of the truth but there will ultimately be triumph.
“The lesson I take from this is that truth will ultimately triumph and also that God is interested in us when we go astray and pulls us back from the brink to come home and take ownership. I hope my brothers and sisters on the other side of the divide will see this as a golden opportunity to join hands with those of us in government to take Ekiti to a greater height. That for me is the most important lesson we should all take away”, he said.
He added that the victory also shows that God wanted the administration to continue the good works it has started and take it to completion.
In his sermon, the Bishop of Ekiti Anglican Diocese, Rt Revd Christopher Omotunde said Fayemi’s victory was the handiwork of God who loved the State and didn’t want any bloodbath that might have taken place after the apex court’s verdict; adding that the victory was not brought by the competencies of Fayemi’s legal team.
Omotunde stressed that God wanted His agenda to be fulfilled in the State hence the absolute peace that the State witnessed after the verdict; saying without peace, there wouldn’t be any meaningful development.
The Bishop however warned the Governor against be taken in by schemes of sycophants but remained focused on developing the State and making it the pride of all.
