Ekiti Student Wins 2013 ANCOPPS National Essay Writing Competition

Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi has received Master Akin Olowoyo Olorunfemi, a student of CAC Grammar School, Efon Alaaye, who emerged the winner of the 2013 edition of the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) national essay writing competition held in Makurdi.

Receiving the student who was accompanied by the State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr Kehinde Ojo, his parents, Mr and Mrs Olorunfemi as well as ANCOPSS Executive members in Ado Ekiti, the Governor described the young Olorunfemi as the demonstration of excellence which the State is known for.

Dr. Fayemi who was happy that a product of a public secondary school has done the State proud in a national essay competition expressed optimism that Ekiti State students would perform excellently when the results of the recently concluded Senior School Certificate Examinations are out.

The Governor who stated that the first thing his administration did on assumption of office in 2010 was to redefine the pride of place of the State and consistently investing to ensure that the State regains the position, said Olorunfemi’s emergence has justified the commitment of the present administration to making the State’s education sector the first among equals.

While urging parents, teachers and other stakeholders in the society to support government in its quest to improve the education sector, Fayemi said it is imperative to get the public schools back on the track excellence, as the essay competition now shows that students can do well not necessarily by attending private schools.

Governor Fayemi gave the winner of the competition a cash gift and urged him not to relent in his pursuit for academic excellence.

In his remarks, Olorunfemi thanked the Governor for the various transformations that are ongoing in the education sector, especially the Operation Renovate All Schools programme of the Fayemi-led administration; saying that these have spurred him on to aspire for excellence since the Government had provided conducive learning environment for teaching and learning.

He assured that he would not relent in making Ekiti proud in subsequent academic outings.
