Friends, families, top government functionaries and well-wishers, on Sunday joined Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi and his siblings at St. Martins Catholic Church, Isan Ekiti, for a thanksgiving service commemorating the first memorial of the Governor’s mother, Madam Dorcas Fayemi who passed on last year.
Governor Fayemi who said that he had missed the motherly roles played by the late Fayemi matriarch explained the difficulty in coping with the pains of losing a mother.
He added that though the pain of losing his mentor might be much, the values of faithfulness, integrity and compassion for the people as well as legacies left behind by the deceased are consoling.
The Governor said these values have continued to propel him in his pursuit for a better Ekiti which is already coming to manifestation.
Also speaking, the Governor’s wife, Erelu Bisi Fayemi said the late matriarch was not only missed because she was a mother but also because she lived an exemplary life.
Mrs Fayemi added that her wise counsels and guidance would be missed as she had made indelible marks in the lives of members of the family.
In his sermon, the Catholic Bishop of Ekiti, Most Revd Felix Ajakaye stressed the need for people to celebrate their departed ones as those who had made good landmarks in their family and society would always be remembered.
While urging parents to train up their children in the fear of God, the Bishop commended the deceased for training her children to be responsible citizens as one of them has entrenched good governance in the State.
He lauded Governor Fayemi for making the family proud but urged him not to relent in actualising his transformation agenda for Ekiti State.
