In a bid to ensure that animals slaughtered in Ekiti State are good for human consumption, the State Government has constructed a lairage
at the abattoir along Iworoko-Ado road where pre-mortem and post-motem inspections would be conducted on the animals.
Speaking at the official opening ceremony of the facility, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr. Babajide Arowosafe reiterated the commitment of the State Government to ensuring that the people are healthy.
Charging all stakeholders to reciprocate government’s good gesture, Mr. Arowosafe stressed the need for the Butchers and Meat Sellers Associations to shun acrimony and maintain the prevailing peace, saying that no meaningful development could be achieved in a rancorous atmosphere.
On the claim of the Meat Sellers that the Butchers slaughter more cows than necessary daily and arbitrarily hike the price of meat, the Commissioner stressed the need for the leaders of both associations to maintain peace, adding that the issue should be settled amicably.
In his remark, the Chairman of the Ado Ekiti Butchers Associations, Alhaji Mustapha Adigun pledged to coexist peacefully with meat
sellers, assuring that they would avoid any act that could truncate the prevailing peace.
Also speaking, the Director of Veterinary Department in the Ministry, Dr. Ebenezer Ogunlade assured that Veterinary Doctors will always be
available at the lairage to conduct pre-mortem and post-mortem inspections on all animals processed for public consumption.
Dr. Ogunlade stressed the need for all stakeholders to ensure hygiene practices and maintain an hygienic environment.
