Ekiti Govt Implements15 Rural Electrification Projects

Ekiti State Government  reassured residents of more dividends of democracy. It promised the provision and extension of
social infrastructures like electricity, pipe-borne water and road network.
The reassurance was given by the Deputy Governor, Prof. Modupe Adelabu at the inauguration of the Electricity Extension and Transformer Installation Projects at Ilamoji New Iyin Road Quarters, Ireakari NTA Government Estate and Jerusalem Estates, Onigaari, all in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

She spoke of government’s plan to transform the developing areas on the outskirts of the capital city and in the other 15 local government headquarters in the state.

The deputy governor said the administration of Governor Kayode Fayemi considered stable electricity as essential to socio-economic
and industrial development of the state.

Mrs. Adelabu told her audience that the procurement of 120 electric transformers on assumption of office in year 2010 by the present
administration was borne out of the governor’s resolve to reverse rural-urban drift.

According to her, the government has connected 12 communities in the state to the national grids while transformers have been
distributed to various communities where electricity has just been extended to boost power supply and make electricity more stable.Mrs. Adelabu, who also noted that power supply, in addition to its socio-economic advantage will also illuminate the entire environment and curb the activities of marauders, appealed to the people living in the areas where the transformers have just been installed to protect the facilities.

The deputy governor reiterated that the governor will ensure that every resident have easy access to social facilities including,
pipe-borne water, qualitative health and food that will make life more comfortable, elongate life span and make poverty a thing of the past in Ekiti.
In his remark, the General Manager of the State Electricity Board, Mr. Sunday Komolafe, commended the governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi for his tireless efforts at ensuring that more communities in Ekiti enjoy stable electricity power supply.
He noted that the governor’s courageous efforts in this areas have started yielding results with more small and medium scale enterprises especially those that rely most on electricity are springing up in major towns in the state while communities which are socially boring before have come alive thereby reducing the usual rural urban drift among the youths.

Also speaking at the Rural Electrification and Transformer Installation Project at Ekiiti Housing Estate, Afao Road, the Special
Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Mr. Kayode Jegede, explained that the government has completed and commissioned fifteen of the sixteen rural electrification project it started a few years ago.
He stressed that the government’s determination at ensuring that Ekiti communities enjoy uninterrupted power supply is and called on the people to continue to support and cooperate with the administration of Governor Kayode Fayemi to enable him complete his
transformation and reformation agenda for the state.
