Nine Bills Pass Through First Reading in Ekiti Assembly

Nine executive bills have passed through the first reading at the Ekiti State House of Assembly.
The bills are Ekiti State college of Technical and Commercial agriculture Bill, 2013, Broadcasting service of Ekiti state (Amendment) Law, 2013, Customary Courts Bill, 2013, Ekiti State Arbitration Bill, 2013, Magistrate’s Courts Bill, 2013 and Ekiti state Administration of Criminal Justice Bill, 2013.
Others are Rights of Persons with disability Bill, 2013, Ekiti state Law Review Commission Bill, 2013 and Ekiti State Equal Opportunities Bill, 2013.
The Equal Opportunities bill was in tandem with the women empowerment and gender equality policy of the Fayemi administration,
The bill seeks to enact a law to provide for equal opportunities for all persons and to prohibit all forms of gender based discrimination and inequalities in Ekiti state.
The bill, which passed through the Second Reading, was committed to the House Committee on Women affairs for further Legislative action.
Meanwhile, the Director of Legal Services in the House, Mrs. Aregbe Francisca has been appointed as Deputy Clerk, Legal Matters in the Assembly.
Mrs. Aregbe who had been a level 17 Officer since the year 2000 was appointed in line with the House of Assembly Service Commission Law.
She became the first person to occupy the post in the history of the Assembly.
In her acceptance speech, Mrs. Aregbe promised to use her new position for the development of the legislative arm of government in Ekiti.
