Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has congratulated Nigerians on the victory of the Golden Eaglets at the FIFA Under-17 World Cup final on Saturday.
Fayemi, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Olayinka Oyebode, said winning the Cup for an unprecedented fourth time has further confirmed Nigeria’s position as a soccer world power and the leading light of Africa.
The Governor saluted the courage, determination and commitment of the players and officials of the team for working hard to achieve this victory for the country which he noted is going
through a difficult phase in its history.
Fayemi praised the Eaglets for proving themselves good ambassadors of Nigeria and defending the colours of their country at a global championship.
He commended the boys for displaying uncommon skills and dexterity and approaching each match with seriousness and tactical discipline till the Cup was won.
The Governor urged the nation’s football authorities to ensure that the boys are kept together to represent the country at higher global tournaments.
Fayemi charged the senior national team, the Super Eagles, to ensure qualification for next year’s World Cup in Brazil as a further proof of Nigeria’s eminent place in World football.
“On behalf of the government and good people of Ekiti State, we say a big thank you to these worthy ambassador and look forward to seeing our football authorities build on this success to earn a permanent top position in international football.”
