November 12, 2013

Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi (Center, wearing Green Cap); with Party faithful and Community Leaders, during a tour of Ayegbaju-Ekiti, ahead of the 2014 appropriation budget.

Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi on Monday said that grassroots development is a major priority of his administration, hence the government’s emphasis on the people.

Speaking during his town hall meetings to communities in Oye Local Government Area, the Governor stated that the people are the crux of his administration and this accounts for the decision not to “development for them but with them”.

The Governor visited a total 14 communities. They are: Ayegbaju, Isan, Ilemesho, Ayede, Itaji, Oloje, Imojo, Oye, Ire, Ilupeju, Itapa, Osin, Omu and Ijelu.

Government Fayemi who reiterated his commitment to spreading development to all the nooks and crannies of the State added that his administration is irrevocably committed to meeting the needs of the people on whose shoulders his administration rode to power.

The Governor explained that government should be about the masses who yearn for development and this is why the opinions of the grassroots about what they need are so important to his administration that he embarked on the town hall meeting.

Fayemi added that the different way the town hall meetings are done this year is not unconnected to the fact that he wanted to see how much impact the administration has made on the people in the last three years, inspect ongoing projects and meet with the people on what next to be done.

Many of the communities had sought the Governor’s attention in the area of road networks, saying this would enhance their socio economic well being.

Governor Fayemi speaking on this, assured that many of the roads would be constructed while existing ones that are yet to be completed would be completed as soon as possible.

He stressed that his administration would leave no stone unturned in achieving its target of making all parts of the state accessible by motorable roads by 2014.

The town hall meeting also took Fayemi and his team to Orisunmibare community near Itaji- Ekiti. The community basically has no motorable road and electricity. However the Governor’s unscheduled visit to the community is expected to change the fortune of the community.

Thousands of jubilant citizens of the 14 communities visited by the Governor  had trooped out to welcome him and followed him to the various project sites and the town hall meetings.
