Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Mrs. Funmi Olayinka has stressed the importance of continuous vacination to stamping out polio from our society. Speaking at the flag off of the first round of year 2012 National Immunization Plus Days (NIPDs), held at the Fajuyi memorial park, Ado Ekiti, she said concerted efforts must be made towards sustaining the present status of the state of being wild polio virus free.

Olayinka who reminded parents that immunization was a universally acclaimed and one of the surest ways of ensuring healthy living for children, appealed to stakeholders to support the delivery of both routine and supplemental immunization services across the state as at when due.

While acknowledging the support of partners such as the WHO, UNiCEF, Rotary International among others, she charged traditional rulers, religious leaders and community leaders to embrace the programme and champion the fight against the childhood killer disease. According to her, the present administration in Ekiti State is committed to strengthening all supplemental immunization.

Earlier in his address at the ceremony, the state commissioner for Health, Professor Olusola Fasuba had regretted that Nigeria is still on the list of nations that constitute threat to the health of children globally inspite of combative efforts of government at all levels.

He said year 2012 NIPDs programme is another attempt at providing mothers and children health care services and facilities such as vacines for oral polio, measles, tetanus, hepatitis B among other. He appealed to mothers and care givers to ensure that children are fully immunized and well protected against all childhood killer diseases.
