To ensure a functional democratic structure of the Local Government and proper harmonization of management.

The Ministry is an Executive Branch created under the Executive fiat of the State Governor. It has metamorphosed at different times with different names and reports directly to the Governor and performs the following functions:

The Function of the Ministry include:-

• The functions of the Ministry include:
  • Provision of guidelines for the operation of Local Governments as approved by the State Government;
  • Coordinating the activities of the Councils;
  • Serving as liaison office between the State-MDAs and Local Governments;
  • Secretariat for the Joint Account and Allocation of Funds Committee (JAAC);
  • Monitoring of capital projects of Local Governments;
  • Capacity development of political office holders in Local Governments;
  • Review of Local Government Medium Term Fiscal Framework (MTF) with a critical look at the re-occurring issues in Local Government Financial Administration;
  • Works on formation of Community Development Association, sensitizes and mobilizes communities on Community Development Associations;
  • Organizes Community Needs Assessment and projects selection in Communities of the State, holding meeting with CDAs, Community Leaders and Community-based Organisations;
  • Liaises with relevant Agencies to support Community Development activities and encourages communities on sustenance of completed Community and Government projects;

  Collaborates with NGOs on social development activities for socio-political development, give support on Town day celebrations in collaboration with Community-based Organisations (CBOs) for project development and showcasing Community cultural and Economic potential for external assistance.

Be Counted to Enjoy More Dividends of Democracy. Ekiti Census
Committee tells residents.

Residents of Ekiti State have been told to make themselves available
for the enumeration exercise coming up nationwide next week to benefit
more from the government of Mr Biodun Oyebanji.

The statement was made by the leadership of the state Steering and
Advocacy Committee on 2023 Census in charge of enlightenment tour of
Ekiti North Senatorial District, led by the Commissioner for Health
and Human Services, Dr Oyebanji Filani on the second day of the 3 days
visits to the local government areas.

Filani, while addressing representatives from all the communities in
Moba local government area, said that knowing the accurate sectoral
population figure of the state would help the governor in proper
distribution of infrastructural facilities to the people.

The Commissioner emphasized further that population figures also
determine how national assets are shared among the federating units,
therefore the need for Ekiti residents to ensure they are counted.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs and
Social Development, Mrs Sola Adeluyi charged residents to answer all
questions directed to them by enumerators correctly in order not to
jeopardize the state’s chances of greater population.

Also contributing, the Ekiti State Statistician General, Mr Omoniyi
Kolawole said that the 5-day house and head count would not be
extended adding that there is the likelihood of restriction of
vehicular movement during the period.

In his welcome address, the Chairman of Ero Local Council Development
Area LCDA, Hon Akin Alebiosu assured that the people of Moba local
government and Ero LCDA were fully prepared for the exercise.

He thanked the state Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji for taking the bull
by the horn and living no stone unturned at ensuring the success of
the exercise in the state.

Corroborating his position, Moba local government area Chairman, Hon
Adeoye Oriyomi said that various communities in the area have put
arrangements in place to motivate and mobilize residents for the
exercise, while officials of the population agency would be given
adequate support for a successful enumeration.

Some of the participants at the forum pledged their readiness to make
the exercise a huge success in their areas.

At Ilejemeje local government area, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry
of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Sola Adeluyi called on
the people to spread the message to all the nooks and crannies of the
council area.

She explained that there was no reason why non-indigenes should leave
their residential areas to their home towns, saying that they should
be counted where they sojourn.

Welcoming the team to the area, the Local Government Chairman, Hon.
Oloruntoba Alufa, who was represented by the Director of Budget,
Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr Matthew Adebayo disclosed that
census Committee at the local level has mobilized and prepared the
ground for a hitch free exercise.

The advocacy team had earlier paid a courtesy visit to the traditional
ruler of Eda-Oniyo Ekiti, the headquarters of the local government,
Oba Oladipo Awolola in his palace, where the leader of the team, Dr
Oyebanji intimated the monarch on the purpose of the visit.

He said as custodian of culture and tradition, as well as being close
to the people through the quarter chiefs, the traditional ruler should
support the efforts of the state in the sensitization of the people of
the area.

Responding, the Eleda of Eda-Oniyo Ekiti, Oba Oladipo Awolola promised
to intensify efforts, in collaboration with the chiefs to make the
exercise a successful one.

The tour of the local government areas would be rounded up on Friday.

*Ekiti Census Committee Tours Local Government, Solicits the People’s
Support for the Exercise.*

Ekiti State Steering and Advocacy Committee for the 2023 population
census has called on the people of the state to come out enmasse and
present themselves for enumeration when the exercise begins.

The leader of the team that visited Oye local government areas for
advocacy and enlightenment exercise, who is the Commissioner for
Health and Human Services, Dr Oyebanji Filani made the appeal while
addressing representatives of communities in the council area in Oye
Ekiti.

Dr Filani, who was accompanied on the trip by Ekiti State Statistician
General, Mr Matthew Omoyeni Kolawole said that population census is an
important tool for national planning in the distribution of social
amenities.

The team leader disabused the minds of the people from viewing the
exercise as means of tax imposition, charging Ekiti residents to
support the government for the success of the house and head count in
the state.

While admonishing the people to carry the message to the grassroots,
Dr Filani called on members of various communities in the local
government area to embrace the enumerators and other officials of the
National Population Commission with open arms in the discharge of
their duties.

In his contribution, the State’s Statistician General, Mr Matthew
Omoyeni Kolawole said the exercise has no age limit, stressing further
that all living human beings are entitled to be captured.

In his welcome address, the Chairman of Oye Local Government, Hon.
Sunday Ajimoko advised his people to play the game according to the
rules by abiding with the laid down guidelines.

Speaking on behalf of the traditional rulers from the local government
area, who were mostly represented by their chiefs, the Oloye of Oye
Ekiti, Oba Oluwole Ademolaju said that traditional rulers in the area
have embarked on sensitisation programmes in their domains, assuring
the representatives of the state government of maximum support for the
success of the exercise in Ekiti State.

EKITI GOVT. TRAINS 78 LG INFORMATION And COMMUNITY OFFICERS FOR EFFECTIVE
GRASSROOTS ENGAGEMENT*

Ekiti State Government has held a one day training programme for Local
Government Information and Community Officers to boost their capacity
to engage the people at the grassroots in communicating government
policies, programmes and activities .

Speaking during the training programme organized by her office themed
“Government Information Management and Community Engagement”, the
Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Community Communications,
Mrs. Mary Oso-Omotoso reiterated the commitment of the Governor Oyebanji led
administration to an all-encompassing governance that would not leave
anyone behind, stressing that the focus was to ensure free flow of
information between the government and the people.

She recalled that the State Government recently launched a feedback
channel as a window to have insight into the happenings at the
grassroots with a view to addressing possible problems or challenges,
emphasizing that the present administration is committed to ensuring
genuine feedback from the people.

Omotoso said that the peculiar position of the Local Government
Information Officers as the closest information managers to the people
at the grassroots made it imperative for Government to partner them
for not only effective creation of awareness but also sustaining the
relationship between the Government and the people.

The Governor’s aide who said the technical session will not be a one –
off event advised the participants at the workshop to take advantage
of the opportunity provided by the training programme to broaden their
horizon for better service delivery and justify the investment in them
by utilizing the knowledge acquired to help improve government- people
relationship in their various local governments.

The Director, Community and Social Department of Efon Local
Government, Mr. Adekola Abdulrasaq who spoke on behalf of the
participants at the workshop, expressed appreciation to  Governor Oyebanji for
making  such impactful  training program possible which he described
as first of its kind and a recognition of the importance of Local
Government Information and Community
Officers to Community relations.

He pledged that they would judiciously utilize knowledge acquired at
the programme to improve their efficiency towards achieving the
desired goals.

The technical session  had Mrs. Oluwatimilehin Adaeze, founder,
Triumphant Health & Development Initiative  and Ms Oluwatumininu
Adedeji, Founder, Balm in Gilead Foundation for Sustainable
Development, BIGIF as facilitators .

EKSG DISTRIBUTES THIRTY-NINE OFFICIAL VEHICLES TO HEADS OF LOCAL
GOVERNMENT ADMINISTRATION

It was fun fare at the Fajuyi Pavillion as the Governor of Ekiti
State, Mr Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji distributed 39 official vehicles to
the Heads of Local Government Administrations (HLAs) in order to
perform their day-to-day activities in their various LGAs.

While presenting the keys to the beneficiaries, the Governor who was
represented by the Head of Service, Mr Bamidele Agbede, reiterated the
commitment of his administration to the welfare of the Ekiti people at
the grassroots.

Oyebanji called on the local government functionaries to discharge
their duties as expected for the overall development of the rural
communities.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Ekiti Motor Dealers Association, Alhaji
Ibrahim Bankole expressed the delight of his members as well as
appreciating the Governor for contracting the procurement of the
vehicles to car indigenous dealers in Ekiti State.

Alhaji Bankole promised to mobilize members of his association to pay
their taxes and levies to the state coffers to boost the internally
generated revenue ( IGR).

In his comments, the ALGON Chairman, who is also the Chairman of Efon
Local Government Area, Engr. Olabode Olatunji commended the government
for patronizing the indigenous people in the procurement of goods and
services, which according to him, will guard against capital flights.

Responding to questions from journalists at the occasion, the Chairman
of Ido/Osi Local Government Area, Dr. Sola Ogunsina appreciated the
Governor for inspiring the HLAs, urging the beneficiaries to to be
dutiful, dedicated and uphold their status by showing exemplary
leadership in their respective working environment.

In his welcome address the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local
Government and Community Development, Mr Dare Jolumo said that the
vehicles distributed to the beneficiaries were supplied in line with
the principles of local content policy of the Biodun Oyebanji-led
administration.

Mr Jolumo said the present government has done much for workers since
October 16, 2022, particularly at the local government level, with a
charge to them to reciprocate the gesture through dedication and hard
work.

Some of the beneficiaries interviewed expressed their joy to the
Governor for extending the gesture to the LGAs and LCDAs, assuring the
state Government of their continued loyalty and support.
