EKSG Commences Payment Of Arrears Of Minimum Wage To LG Workers

Ekiti State Government has commenced the payment of arrears accrued to Local Government workers consequence upon the increase in minimum wage of workers.

The payment of an installment of one month was based on the agreement reached between the state government and the leadership of the state chapter of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Workers (NULGE).

Speaking on the development in Ado Ekiti, the President of the state chapter of NULGE, Comrade Bunmi Ajimoko described government’s gesture as a display of the good intention of the Fayemi led administration towards its workforce.

Ajimoko who expressed optimism that government would stick to the agreement with the workers’ union, said NULGE would continue to support efforts at enhancing the well-being of workers, stressing that the issues of workers’ welfare remained the paramount interest of the union.

Noting that the development would also motivate workers, the union leader pledged that the workers would continue to justify government’s huge investment in its workforce and remain dedicated to their duties.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission’s chapter of NULGE, Comrade Bimbola Adedoyin expressed gratitude to the state government for taking concrete steps in fulfilling its promise to pay the arrears.

Describing Dr. Fayemi as a friend of the workers and a listening Governor who would leave no stone unturned to meet the yearnings of government employees, Comrade Adedoyin said NULGE would continue to support efforts to improve the lots of the workers.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission (LGSC), Chief Ranti Adebisi  said the gesture was in spite of the meager and dwindling resources accrued to the state from the federation account.

Chief Adebisi who expressed appreciation to the leadership of the workers ’union for their understanding and contribution to the development, urged the workers to reciprocate government’s gesture by being devoted to their duties.
