Ekiti State Government has said that over 52,000 people benefited from the recently concluded 9th edition of its free Health Mission.
The State Commissioner for Health, Professor Olusola Fasubaa who made this known in Ado Ekiti, reiterated the determination of the Fayemi led administration to particularly improve the health status of the people in the state.
The Commissioner expressed satisfaction with the level of success achieved stressing that the focus was to continue to impact positively on the lives of the people of the state and bring succor to the less privilege.
Professor Fasubaa who spoke through the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Folakemi Olomojobi; assured that referral cases would be duly attended to at designated government secondary and tertiary health care facilities including the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital and the Adunni Olayinka Memorial Diagnostic Centre adding that government would continue place high premium on health issues.
Describing health as a vital component of the 8-point agenda of the present administration in the state as well as an important tool towards achieving medium term sustainable human development, Fasubaa said that the adoption of the NHIS programmed by the state is to support the free health scheme in the state.
Prof. Fasubaa said that the 35 designated health facilities would continue to provide free health care for children under five, pregnant women, physical challenge person and senior citizens of sixty five years and above while another 30 health facilities would continue to render free health care services to under five years children and pregnant women under the Ekiti free health programme MGDs/NIHS to reduce mortality rate of children under five years and pregnant women.
According to the Commissioner, the most common ailments treated during the weeklong programme include musculoskeletal pain, visual and eye problems, fever, respiratory tract infections, headache, abdominal pain/discomfort, malaria, pain, dental symptoms, general weakness.
He expressed appreciation to the Development Support Initiative, a non-governmental organization for collaborating with the state government to implement the lofty programme.
