Ekiti, Ondo Partner to Construct Ring Road

February 27, 2012

Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi says talks are on-going between Ekiti and Ondo States to open up abandoned Emure-Eporo-Emure-Ile road to commuters who ply Ado-Akure road which now is in deplorable condition.

Emure-Eporo-Emure-Ile road links Ekiti and Ondo States and commuters can reach either state through it in less than thirty minutes.

The Governor made the disclosure at Emure Ekiti during the monthly environmental sanitation exercise; saying that aside its economic importance to the two states, the road would serve as an alternative route for commuters who might not want to ply the Ado-Akure road which has not been rehabilitated despite pleas by the two states to the federal government.

Dr. Fayemi said that Ekiti State had already started rehabilitating its own portion of the ring road, even as the drains which have been responsible for the usual collapse of the road are now being fixed to ensure that the road does not fail as usual; adding that he had already spoken with the Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Segun Mimiko to tar the other portion of the road that leads to his state.

“I am now here on Emure-Eporo-Emure-Ile road because this is a critical gateway outside the state and there has been problems with the drainage in the area. We have taken some remedial steps to ensure that the drains are open wide enough for water to pass through when the rains start.

I am in communication with the Governor of Ondo State to ensure that we both do our own part of the road. It is such a short cut for many of our people who may not want to go through the federal road that is particularly bad now that we are also pushing FERMA to work on”, he said.

Speaking on the efforts of the state government to prevent flooding, the Governor said the readiness of the state was on a higher level as drains are being put in place in areas which are prone to flooding while other channelization projects are on-going in Ado-Ekiti, Ikere and two other parts of the State.

Fayemi who expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done on the two on-going channelization projects in Ikere added that the state government had started sending flood alert and warning to people in areas that are potentially susceptible to flood so as to avoid any mishap during the coming raining season.

On the compliance of people to the sanitation exercise, the Governor expressed displeasure with the non-compliance of residents in Ado Ekiti as those who flagrantly flouted the exercise were arrested by Sanitation officials; adding  that the state government would not condone disobedience to sanitation laws but would continue to ensure a clean and healthy environment.

Fayemi advised that people should not see the exercise as a monthly ritual but should ensure that their environments are clean at all time.
