February 27, 2012

The Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Mrs. Funmi Olayinka has warned local government workers in the State to wake up to their responsibility and seek ways of making themselves more relevant in the developmental agenda of the present administration.

Speaking during an unscheduled visit to the Igede Ekiti office of the Irepodun/ Ifelodun local government area of the State, she said it was unacceptable for workers of whatever category to stroll into their offices anytime beyond the official resumption time.

Olayinka who frowned at unhealthy environment around the council premises urged the workers to see themselves as stakeholders in the development of the state, adding that it was time for the workers to engage in self audit, and set targets for themselves by planning ahead and ensuring that they pursue the targets at all times.

According to her, “we must set our work plans for the week right at the beginning of the week and strive hard to achieve our goals. This government celebrates achievements rather than efforts, and we demand that everybody must work for his or her pay, asking ourselves at the end of each day whether or not we are fulfilled”.

Earlier in his comments at the occasion, the Director of Administration of the local government who conducted the Deputy Governor and her entourage round the premises, Mr. Dele Afolalu said there was urgent need for government to facilitate renovations of some facilities for the use of the council workers.

He assured the government that workers of the council area were ready to justify their pay by being more alive to their jobs.
