Ekiti State Government has assured members of the National Youth Service Corps and staff of their security in the state.
The Hon commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon Michael Awopetu gave the assurance while hosting the management of the NYSC in Ekiti that paid a courtesy visit to his office in Ado-Ekiti.
Hon Awopetu reiterated the commitment of the state government to the welfare of the youths and the entire residents in the state, promising a good working relationship between the government and the management of NYSC in the state.
He said the report of rejection of corps members and failure to pay their allowances by some arms of government in the state would be investigated and addressed, stressing that NYSC is an important national scheme which should be taken seriously.
The Commissioner promised that no member of the corps would be treated with disdain in the state because they are here to serve their fatherland.
Earlier, the State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, Mrs. Emmanuella Okpongete had enumerated the responsibility of the state government to include annual subvention to cater adequately for the welfare of corps members deployed to the state, Provision of needed facilities to enhance their jobs and stay in Ekiti State.
Mrs. Okpongete who stated other expectation of the organization from the state government to include provision of Permanent Secretariat offices accommodation, both in the state capital and FCT, Abuja, Permanent Orientation Camp with facilities to accommodate minimum of 5000 corps members, standard transit lodge for corps members in all the Local Government Areas of the state among others pleaded the state government to assist in finding solution to some of the pressing challenges.
