Ekiti State Government has commenced plans to rehabilitate three stadia located at Ijero, Ikole and Ikere Ekiti. This is part of government’s efforts to develop sports talents and stars at the grassroots level.
The State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon Michael Awopetu made this known in Ado Ekiti while receiving members of the State chapter of the Sports Writer Association (SWAN) led by its Chairman, Alhaji Deji Ogunsakin on a courtesy visit to his office.
The Commissioner explained that government is planning to hold sports summit in the State as part of efforts to promote sports at the grassroots level and get talented young footballers that can be carefully developed into stars.
Awopetu disclosed that the Fayemi-led administration has improved the wages and allowances of the players and technical crew at the State football club, Ekiti United Football Club to motivate them for better performance.
He commended SWAN for its support for the Ekiti United Club, stressing the need for them to work with the State government in order to sustain the tempo.
Earlier, the Chairman Sports Writer Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Ekiti Chapter, Alhaji Deji Ogunsakin promised that the Association would not relent in their efforts to promote sports in the state. He lauded government’s commitment to restructuring Ekiti United Football Club and grassroots sports development in Ekiti State.
