In its bid to boost grassroot sports, the Ekiti State Government has distributed Sports equipment worth N1.6 million to the 16 Local Governments in the State.
Addressing the representatives of the benefitting Councils at the Board Room of the Oluyemi Kayode stadium in Ado Ekiti, the
Chairman of the State Sports Council, Prince Ademola Adetola assured them of government’s continuous support for development of sports in the grassroots.
Prince Adetola who appreciated the contributions of Caretaker Chairmen and Sports Officers across the 16 Local Government Areas, towards the success of the just concluded 3rd Ekiti State Sports fiesta, urged them to work harder to improve the quality of sports in their respective domain.
He told them not to allow the budding talents at the grassroots to waste away by organising sports activities that will showcase those talents and potentials for the purpose of bringing them to the limelight.
The Chairman however pleaded with the Caretaker Chairmen in Ekiti East and Ise/Orun LGs to provide office accommodation for
Sport Officers posted to their areas.
Earlier, the Director of Sports, Mr. Olukayode Adewumi
said the equipment was donated as part of government’s effort at
encouraging youngsters’ participation in sports.
He advised the youths to avail themselves of the
opportunity and show up for regular trainings in sports of their
choice.
Responding on behalf of his Colleagues, the Caretaker
Chairman of Efon LG, Chief Adio Folayan expressed appreciation to the
government for the gesture, adding that they would ensure judicious
use of the materials at the grassroots.
Sports Materials distributed include: volley-ball cases,
volley ball net, Handball case, Football case, set of Table Tennis
materials, set of Jersey, Football boots and several pairs of hoses
