The Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools Nigeria Ekiti state chapter (ASUSS) has donated 209 Veronica buckets to Ekiti State Government as part of Covid-19 intervention in public secondary schools, Ministry of Education, and Teaching Service Commission.
The Permanent Secretary Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Mr. Olusesan Alabi, while receiving the materials appreciated ASUSS for the significant contribution to the government’s efforts to curtail the pandemic, especially among the students in schools.
He described ASUSS as a union that has always shown itself as a partner in progress to TESCOM and Ekiti State Government at large.
The Permanent Secretary said he was highly impressed with ASUSS conducts and landmark achievements so far which include welfare schemes for members such as rendering financial assistance to hospitalised members, provision of plots of land at highly subsidized rates for members amongst others noted that such labour unions do not depend solely on donors before getting things done.
He lauded the giant strides of ASUSS and charged them to keep these up as the union’s brilliant performance and laudable achievements are being recognized and are talked about even outside the State.
Alabi who disclosed that the government is putting together a health and hygienic measures for post-COVID-19 for staff and students in schools promised that the Veronica Buckets would be judiciously utilised, adding that the buckets will be useful even beyond the pandemic period to ensure hygiene in schools through regular hand washing.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of ASUSS, Comrade Sola Adigun who also doubles as the Chairman of Trade Union Congress (TUC) said the 209 Veronica Buckets donated were expected to be distributed to all the public secondary schools in the State to support government’s efforts at curtailing Covid-19 in schools in anticipation of schools re-opening soonest.
He said that the Veronica buckets will be used to ensure personal hygiene with regular hand washing by both students and teachers and to obeying all other health instructions.
