The Ekiti State Government has condemned alleged threats to the lives of the kingmakers of Epe Ekiti in Ijero Local Government over moves to fill the vacant stool of the Elepe.
The Deputy Governor, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi, at a meeting with kingmakers, youths, and royal families in his office on Tuesday warned the stakeholders to refrain from any act that could cause a breakdown of law and order in the state.
According to a statement by the Special Assistant (Media) to the Deputy Governor, Odunayo Ogunmola, the stakeholders were urged to toe the line of peace as the government would not fold its arms and allow peace to be subverted in the town.
The meeting was called following text messages from unknown persons threatening to kill the Epe Ekiti kingmakers if they fail to install a particular candidate as the next king of the town.
Describing the action as uncalled for, Egbeyemi warned that anyone caught fomenting trouble or indicted by the security report in the area would be made to face the wrath of law urging interest groups to cooperate with the kingmakers to choose a new monarch.
All the attendees of the meeting including the Regent, High Chief Olajide Dada, Prince Kolawole Arowolo, and the youth representatives in the town pledged to embrace peace as ordered by the government.
