EKSG distributes Protective Materials to Public Schools ahead of Resumption

Ekiti State Government has distributed protective materials for the prevention of the spread of Coronavirus and other communicable diseases to all public schools in preparation for the resumption of SSS3 Students in the State.

Materials distributed include; disinfectants, infrared thermometers, sprayers, soaps, Veronica buckets and alcohol-based hand sanitizers.

Prior to this, Governor Kayode Fayemi, had on Wednesday last week, announced August 10 date for the reopening of secondary schools to students writing the West Africa Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) slated for August 17, 2020.

Distributing the materials to Principals and Heads of Schools, the State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr Foluso Daramola reiterated the commitment of the Governor Fayemi-led administration to the general well-being of people in the State, particularly school age children and teachers, adding that no stone would be left unturned towards ensuring the safety of the SSS3 students who are expected to resume on Monday 10th August, and others, when they subsequently resume.

The Commissioner charged principals and teachers to live up to their responsibilities, stressing the need to judiciously utilize the materials distributed by the State Government.

Daramola also noted the importance of strict adherence to laid down guidelines and protocols for Covid-19, adding that the ban on schools’ assemblies must be adhered to strictly, in the interest of all.

He said that government would embark on rigorous monitoring, to ensure proper compliance with established COVID-19 protocols, to combat the spread of the deadly virus in the State.

Responding, the President of the All Nigerian Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools in the State, and Principal of St. Louis Grammar School, Ikere-Ekiti, Mrs Rhoda Ojo, expressed gratitude to the State Government for the laudable initiative and pledged on behalf of her colleagues to ensure that the materials were judiciously utilized.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Mr James Owolabi commended the State Government for his efforts at curbing the spread of COVID-19 in Ekiti State.

Present at the ceremony were Directors in the Ministry, Principal and Heads of Schools as well as some other significant stakeholders in the education sector.
