…Governor, Others Lay Wreath In Honor Of Unknown Soldiers
Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has said Nigeria would continue to appreciate the sacrifices made by the men of the Armed Forces to ensure the unity of the country.
The Governor said officers and men of the Armed Forces who died in the course of service had demonstrated their love and patriotism for their fatherland by paying the supreme price.
Dr. Fayemi who was represented by his Deputy, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi, made the remarks on Friday during the grand finale of this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration held at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion, Ado Ekiti, the state capital.
Representatives from both serving and retired military officers, paramilitary organizations, top government functionaries, traditional rulers were in attendance to celebrate the annual event.
The celebration is held on the 15th of January every year to remember the fallen heroes of the Armed Forces who have paid the supreme price to safeguard the nation’s peace, security, and stability.
This year’s event kicked off with the inspection of the guard of honour by the Governor amidst rendition of solemn tunes by the men of the Police Band.
There were different military parades and firing of volley gunshots as a form of a salute by the soldiers from the 323 Artillery Brigade, Akure to commemorate the day.
The climax of the event was the laying of the wreaths by the Governor, followed by the Commander, 323 Artillery Brigade, represented by the Chief of Staff, Colonel Ibu, Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Tunde Mobayo, Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Chairman, Nigerian Legion in Ekiti, (Rtd) Colonel Olorunda Adeyanju and Ewi of Ado, Ekiti, Oba Adeyemo Adejugbe.
A minute silence was observed with prayers offered for the fallen heroes.
The Chairman, Nigerian Legion in Ekiti State, Rtd Colonel, Olorunda Adeyanju called on the Federal Government to do more in attending to the issues about the retired military personnel.
Adeyanju also called on government, corporate organisations to see to the welfare of the wives and children of their compatriots who died in the line of duty should not be forgotten.
Scores of balloons were released to the air as a symbol of peace across the states of the country.
Other dignitaries who attended the ceremony included the Deputy Speaker, Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Hakeem Jamiu; the Head of Service, Mrs. Peju Babafemi; the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Biodun Omoleye and other top government officials.
