The Senior Special Assistance to the Ekiti State Governor on Community Communications, Mrs Mary Oso Omotoso has solicited additional support of mass media for effective community communication and overall success of the new administration in the State.
The Governor’s aide, who made the appeal during a media tour of broadcast stations in the State, stressed the importance of media support for proper education and sensitization of the people for better understanding of the policies, programmes and activities of government as well as provides opportunities for obtaining feedback
from the people.
Describing media practitioners as key stakeholders in the development of the state, Mrs Omotoso emphasized the need for them to take the task of providing proper and unbiased information on government’s activities to the people as a collective responsibility.
According to her, the Oyebanji led administration established the Community Communication Office to serve as a bridge between the people, particularly those at the grassroots, and the Government adding that the present administration was committed to ensuring that no gap exist between government and the governed.
She said that effective communication with communities would ensure that the people have access to timely, accurate, and relevant information via the relevant channels while government would also be
in tune with their yearnings and aspirations.
In their responses, the General Managers of the media stations unanimously pledged their support and commitment to Governor Biodun Oyebanji led administration by embracing the policies that will promote the good image and core values of Ekiti State as well as sensitize the citizens through media programmes.
Media Houses visited included Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State , Progress FM, NTA ,Voice FM, Ayooba FM, Our Peoples FM, Fresh FM, all in Ado Ekiti as well as New Cruise FM in Ikere Ekiti.
