1. SEC APPROVED DRAFT INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (ICT) POLICY FOR IMPLEMENTATION

The State Executive Council approved the draft Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Policy for implementation.

The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Steering Committee had conducted a review of the State’s ICT Policy in November, 2023 as directed by Governor Biodun Oyebanji and in line with the six-point agenda of the present Administration noting the essence of providing efficient and effective facilities for smart governance and efficient service delivery.

It is pertinent to note that the existing State ICT Policy which was initially established in 2003, was last review in 2013 thereby necessitating an update to align with current technological advancement and trends.

Sections of the reviewed policy include:
i. Public Sector and ICT in Ekiti State
ii. ICT and Entrepreneurship
iii. Lands and Survey ICT Policy
iv. Digital Skill and Talent Acquisition
v. ICT Policy and Drone Development
vi. Social Media Emergency Policy
vii. Research and Development ICT Policy
viii. Artificial Intelligence Policy Framework
ix. E-Government Policy
x. ICT Policy on Cyber Security

The objectives of this policy includes:
i. enhanced service delivery;
ii.fostered innovation;
iii. ensured data security and privacy;
iv. promoted of Open Data;
v. build Digital Skills and Literacy; and
vi. ensured Interoperability and Integration of software.

2. SEC APPROVED THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A N100 MILLION INNOVATION ENTERPRISE SUPPORT FUND

The State Executive Council approved the creation of a N100 million Innovation Enterprise Support Fund, aimed at fostering digital innovation and entrepreneurship in the State. This fund will provide essential resources, mentorship, and support to tech innovators and start-ups, empowering them to thrive in the digital economy and significantly contribute to the state’s economic development.

Beneficiaries of the scheme will include a diverse group of innovators with Government providing backings for digital start-ups particularly on Digital Economy innovations and support incubation processes as well as assisting those needing acceleration support with access to mentorship, investors and other support that can help them to become stable, self-sufficient businesses.

These beneficiaries will receive tailored support to enhance their capacities, enabling them to scale their innovations, access vital tools, and receive professional guidance.

The program underscores the commitment of the Oyebanji administration to fostering growth in the digital and innovation sectors, both of which are crucial for job creation and sustainable economic progress.
