Yuletide: Ekiti Assures Residents Of Security To Life And Property
….Promises continued rapid development
Ekiti State Government has assured residents of safety to their lives and properties during Christmas and New Year celebrations.
The State Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun, who gave the assurance while featuring on a radio programme in Ado Ekiti, however urged people in the State not to hesitate to volunteer information that would enhance efforts of government and relevant security agencies to combat security issues in the State.
Stressing the importance of reporting suspicious activities to appropriate authorities, Rt. Hon. Olatunbosun stated that it helps to identify and prevent crime and ultimately curb all forms of wrong doing in the society.
He described security as a collective responsibility, emphasizing that unconcerned and lackadaisical attitude of people to happenings in their neighborhoods often impact negatively on the environment.
Olatunbosun stressed the need for people to take ownership of public infrastructures in their neighborhoods to prevent having them vandalized or stolen, adding that untoward acts such as bush burning particularly during the dry season must be avoided to prevent possible loss of lives and properties.
Noting that Ekiti remains one of the most peaceful and crime-free States in the country, the Commissioner assured that Government would not relent efforts at preventing crime in the State towards ensuring effective policing and total safety of life and property.
He said that anyone apprehended engaging in illegal activities would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
Olatunbosun also assured that the State Government would continue to develop agribusiness and attract youths to farming with the aim of creating employment and empowering the people in the State.
According to him, over 3,000 hectares of land had been cleared for mechanized farming across the State, adding that the greater percentage of the 2025 budget centers on the agricultural sector.
He noted that the State Government is also generating a credible database of unemployed youths for possible placements through the resource centre established at the Ministry of Youth.
He said the State Government is meticulously working towards rapidly developing the State and making life easier and more meaningful for the people.
“It is no rocket science that the issue of perennial flooding was under control this year in spite of the damning NiMET’s prediction. Government proactively embarked on extensive dredging of waterways and desiltation of drains leading to free-flow of water while residents were encouraged to maintain a clean and healthy environment with dino bins strategically positioned to ease waste disposal thus curbing indiscriminate disposal of waste”.
“Many communities that were hitherto in total darkness had been connected to the National grid, thus boosting socioeconomic activities in communities like Omuo, Isinbode, Gbonyin/Ayekire LG, Ikogosi/Ipole Iloro/Erijiyan as well as the extension of the services of the Independent Power Project (IPP) to the Ekiti State University (EKSU) campus, Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) and the Government owned Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State”.
“Workers are happy, minimum wage issue is solved; micro, small and medium enterprises are growing with government’s immense interventions and infrastructural development is massively ongoing. I can assure you that there is only one way to go and that is forward”.
Assuring that Government would not slow down the pace of development in the State, Olatunbosun emphasized the need for the continued support of all stakeholders towards achieving the desired result.
