Fayemi To Procure Artificial Limb For Accident Victim

Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has promised to procure an artificial limb for Abiola Aderonke, who lost her left limb in an auto accident on Ondo-Akure road in January last year.

Aderonke, 26,who hails from Itaji Ekiti in Oye Local Government Area of Ekiti State, was said to have contemplated suicide because of her plight, even as she had sought for employment with her NCE certificate to no avail.

Fortune, however, smiled on her when she encountered the State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, who was at Ikogosi- Ekiti for the fifth phase of the quarterly Free Health Mission.

Speaking on the lady’s plight, the Governor said the State Government has a programme that is established to attend to people with such a plight, saying that he had already spoken to the Development Support Initiative to procure an artificial limb for her so that she could lead a normal life regardless of the loss of her limb.

“I have already reassured her that losing a limb is not the end of life and we will support her. We have a programme to support people in her situation and I have already spoken to our team of health professionals as well as our partners in DSI to help procure an artificial limb for the lady so that on the basis of that she can move around and do what she is supposed to do”, he said.

Fayemi added that with the advancement in technology, Aderonke should be able to do all that she had dream of doing with her two limbs.

Governor Fayemi, while commenting on the statistics of ailments people were diagnosed of, however raised the alarm over the high rate of teenage pregnancy in some of the communities visited by the Free Health team and called on parents to stem the trend by devoting more attention to proper child upbringing and sex education.

The Governor also expressed concern on the rising prevalence rate of HIV/AIDS in some of the communities; saying that all hands must be on deck to prevent the spread of the disease, even as Ekiti has the lowest prevalence rate in Nigeria.
