The Government of Ekiti State has declared Tuesday, June 12th a public holiday to commemorate the 19th anniversary of the annulled June 12, 1993 Presidential election won by the late Chief M.K.O Abiola.
According to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Yinka Oyebode, the holiday is in line with the decision of the Dr Kayode Fayemi-led administration to accord the June 12 election its rightful place in the political development history of the country.
The statement said further that the seed that germinated into the current democratic dispensation in the country was sown and watered by the annulled June 12 presidential election.
The statement urged the citizens to continue to work towards the socio, economic and political advancement of the country in general and Ekiti state in particular.
Activities scheduled for the June 12 celebration in the state include a public lecture, media Chat and Democracy Walk to be led by the Governor.
