Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has congratulated former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, on his attainment of the age of 70.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Yinka Oyebode, Governor Fayemi praised Gen. Abubakar for his role in the entrenchment of democratic rule in Nigeria.
The Governor hailed the former Nigerian ruler for resisting the temptation to perpetuate himself in office but rather opted to bow out of office when ovation was loudest.
He said Abubakar has carved a niche for himself in the annals of the nation’s history by heeding the strident calls of his countrymen who were yearning for return to civil rule after years of military rule.
Governor Fayemi also acknowledged various roles being played by the retired general in ensuring peace in Africa and other troubled parts of the world. This according to him is at a great personal sacrifice at a time the retired general should be enjoying his retirement.
Gov Fayemi said General Abubakar’s exemplary lifestyle and sterling qualities as national leader, elder statesman, peace maker, a family man make him a role model for the younger generation as a leader worth celebrating.
He wished the former military ruler long life, good health and more service to humanity.
