L-R: Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi; Chief of Staff, Mr. Yemi Adaramodu; with other aides, inspecting drainages, during the Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise, at Okemesi Ekiti... on Saturday.

Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has expressed displeasure with the nonchalance and  low level of people’s  compliance with the monthly environmental sanitation exercise; saying that the state government would not spare  any offender  regardless of their  status.

Speaking  after monitoring the monthly  exercise in Ekiti West Local Government area, the Governor said the law is clear about the sanitation exercise and added that there is no excuse for anyone to flout the law with impunity.

Dr. Fayemi said the state government would not take it lightly with anyone who disregards the law, especially the restriction order between 7am and 10am when the exercise is observed in the state.

“It doesn’t matter whether you are a Commissioner in Ekiti or you are an ordinary citizen, if you are caught flouting the law, then you will face the maximum wrath of the law.

I advise people who come afterwards to know that we will not take it kindly with anyone who disregards and disrespects the law as far as environmental sanitation is concerned in the State. If you are an indigene or a resident or a passer-by in Ekiti, between those hours, you must respect the law. If you dont, then you must be ready to face the full consequences of not respecting the law,” he said.

While noting that cleanliness is next to godliness, Governor Fayemi said it is a duty owed by everyone regardless of status to ensure that there is no room for opportunistic diseases which are the result of unclean environment; adding that all hands must be on deck to ensure a healthy society.

At around 8 am, commuters who were plying Aramoko road were arrested for deliberately flouting the environmental sanitation restriction order despite that the state government had announced that the sanitation exercise would be held but were thereafter pardoned by the Governor who urged the defaulters to be law-abiding and cooperate with government to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment.
