Ekiti Will Not Tolerate Harmful Widowhood Practices – Richie-Adewusi

Empowerment, Mrs Fola Richie – Adewusi has said that the era of harmful widowhood practices is over in the state.

Speaking at the Widow’s Empowerment programme organized by Ekiti West Local Government Council in Aramoko, Mrs Richie-Adewusi emphasized that any act of violence or injustice against women would no longer be tolerated. She explained that the State Gender Development Policy was established to harness the potentials of all social groups, promote human rights and protect the well-being of citizens including widows.

She enjoined the widows to make the best use of the 2002 law meant to protect their rights as well as the State Gender-Based Violence (Prohibition) Law which are fully in operation.

Mrs Richie-Adewusi commended the Caretaker Committee Chairman, Hon. Tajudeen Akingbolu and his wife, Funmilola Akingbolu for complementing the state government’s effort in the actualization of its 8-point agenda by empowering widows of the local government.

In her welcome address, the wife of the council boss, Mrs Funmilola Akingbolu advised the widows to be strong, focused and not to engage in any form of immorality. Mrs. Akingbolu assured the women that the empowerment items would be given to every widow in the community irrespective of their religious or political affiliations to supplement their domestic needs.
She solicited the support of the women in the area for the Fayemi administration which is out to better the lots of the people.
