Ekiti State Government has sealed off 6 sawmills in Ise/Orun Local Government Area of the state for engaging in different illegal logging activities.
The state Commissioner for Housing and Environment, Barrister Paul Omotoso made this known while addressing journalists in Ado Ekiti on logging activities in the state.
Barrister Omotoso reiterated the determination of the state government to put a stop to illegal logging activities in the state, emphasising that culprits would be made to face the wrath of the law.
The Commissioner warned sawmillers to renew their papers, stressing the need for all stakeholders in the state to join hands with government to increase the internally generated revenue (IGR) of the state.
The Sawmills that were sealed off include Ayiti Sawmill, Ise Ekiti; Ibadan Sawmill, Orun Ekiti and Alabi Sawmill, Ise Ekiti. Others are Ben-Simeon sawmill, BAS Sawmill and Dollar Sawmill all in Ise Ekiti. It will be recalled that 11 Sawmills were recently sealed off in Ikere Local government area of the State for similar offenses.
