Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, on Monday assured the people of the State that adequate channelisation projects would be put in place to complement existing ones in the bid to ensure free flow of water in all flood prone areas.
The Governor gave the assurance during his town hall meeting with the people of Emure, Ise-Orun, Ikere and Ekiti South West Local Government areas.
Fayemi said this became a necessary preventive measure against flooding which has taken over some states in the country; adding that such a step would allay fears of loss of lives and property of citizens.
He stressed that proper planning of the water course has become a major concern for his government.
While urging citizens to desist from indiscriminate disposal of waste in drains, the governor said citizens should complement government’s efforts in ensuring a safe environment .
Fayemi stated that no fewer than 21 channelisation projects have been put in place across the State even as some in Ado -Ekiti and Ikere have been completed while others are still ongoing.
He assured that more would be put in place in 2013 so as to ensure that all the parts of the State affected by erosion would be adequately addressed.
