Ekiti State Government has consistently remitted the 10% of the State Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to the Local Councils in accordance with the provisions of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution.
The State Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Barr. Paul Omotoso who made the assertion during a meeting with the Caretaker Chairmen of Local Governments in Ado-Ekiti, said the present administration was not in the league of state governments that tamper with Local Government funds.
He noted that due to the paucity of funds facing the Councils, the state government has continued to support the councils in the areas of infrastructural and socio-economic development.
Barr. Omotoso charged the Local Government bosses to be innovative and creative in order to increase the IGR of their respective councils, noting that they cannot continue to depend on Federal allocation to run the affairs of their councils.
He urged them to consolidate on the achievements recorded by their predecessors and ensure continuity to save public funds.
The Commissioner stated that the present administration is poised to eradicate poverty in the state hence the need to fast-track the social economic transformation of their areas.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Ayodeji Ajayi urged the Caretaker Chairmen to spend public fund judiciously.
Mr. Ajayi said the overall concern of all should be the development of the state.
