Ekiti State Government has so far distributed 41,555 laptops to teachers and students in Public Secondary Schools in the state.
The State Commissioner for Education and Technology, Mr. Kehinde Ojo who made this known in Ado-Ekiti, said 29,341 of the laptops went to students while the teachers got 12,244.
Mr. Ojo said that government has commenced the process of configuring the computers for students to prevent them from accessing offensive sites that are contrary to the goals of the scheme.
The Commissioner added that government would also ensure proper monitoring of teachers who are currently undergoing ICT training under the tutelage of Samsung, stressing the resolve of the Fayemi led administration to achieve the desired goal through training, re-training and monitoring of teachers.
Emphasizing the commitment of the present administration to ensure that the education sector ranks among the best in the country, he said
the state government was investing heavily in the sector.
Mr. Ojo charged all beneficiaries to therefore make judicious use of the laptops in order to justify government’s huge investment and reciprocate its good intentions.
Earlier, the Director of Science, Technology and Mathematics , Mr. John Ogunyemi had enumerated some constraints faced by his department to include shortage of monitoring vehicles and paucity of funds.
He however pledged to ensure continuous monitoring activities in order to justify government’s spending and achieve the desired goals.
