EKSG Doles Out N3.8 Million To Fire Disaster Victims

Special Adviser to the Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Hon. Bamitale Oguntoyinbo (2ND R) presenting a cheque to Mr. Adeniyi Ade, a fire disaster victim in Ado-Ekiti. With him is the General Manager SEMA, Mr. Femi Osasona.

Ekiti State government at an emotion laden ceremony distributed cheques amounting to N3.8 million to 42 people from various communities in the state who lost their valuables to fire disaster between March and December 2012.

Distributing the cheques to the victims in Ado-Ekiti, Governor Kayode Fayemi, who was represented by the Special Adviser to the Deputy Governor, Hon. Tale Oguntoyinbo, sympathized with the victims over their losses but thank God that none of them lost their lives to the incident.

Mr Oguntoyinbo explained that the assistance from government could not rebuilt their property but the money was in fulfilment of the government’s promise to identify with the people at all times. He added that the financial aids are in addition to the relief materials already distributed to them last year to assuage their pains.

The Special Adviser also used the occasion to commend the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) for timely intervention and assistance given to victims of natural disasters in the state and urged the Agency not to relent in its job and to diligent and impartial in costing and distribution of materials.

Speaking earlier, the General Manager of the State Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Femi Osasona, thanked Governor Kayode Fayemi and his Deputy, Mrs. Funmi Olayinka for their support for the Agency at all times which has made the Agency to meet its obligations to victims of various disasters in the state.

The General Manager who attributed the delay in the distribution of the cheques to logistics problem used the opportunity to caution them to be more careful on how they handle naked fire and electrical appliances to forestall any future occurrence of fire disaster.

Mr. Adeniyi Ade and Mrs. Moradeke Falade who spoke on behalf of the victims described the present administration as a government that has concern for the welfare and well-being of the people, thanked Governor Kayode Fayemi for the fulfilment of his promise and prayed that such incident will not occur in the state again.
