Youths undergoing the National Youth Service Corps one year mandatory programme have been charged to fulfil the vision of the founding fathers of the scheme by displaying qualities that would help in the task of rebuilding Nigeria.
Delivering the President’s speech at the swearing-in ceremony of 2013 Batch ‘A’ corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Emure-Ise-Ekiti, the Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi noted that the NYSC call-up was a clarion call to national service and personal sacrifice as agents of transformation.
Dr. Fayemi who was represented by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly urged the corps members to imbibe leadership qualities of perseverance, endurance, discipline and peaceful co-existence with their fellow compatriots who came from different socio-cultural and religious background.
He charged the young Nigerians to make the best use of the opportunity by contributing positively to the development of their host communities.
The Governor urged them to maintain decorum in camp and participate in all activities at the orientation programme, assuring that government would provide an enabling environment for the success of the programme. He also promised that government would ensure the safety and welfare of the corps members.
In his remarks, Chairman of the State NYSC Governing Board who is also the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Mr. Kayode Olaosebikan said that the camp would expose the corps members to a number of skills acquisition programmes, physical training and paramilitary exercises, stressing the need for them to handle the activities with all the deserved seriousness.
Mr. Olaosebikan tasked the NYSC members to contribute their quota to the task of nation building saying that they should channel their youthful energy and talents towards building a strong Nigeria.
The Commissioner assured that the state government will continue to maintain an enabling environment for visitors to live peacefully in the state.
Earlier, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr.Tunde Baba-Ahmed said the orientation course was designed to transform the corps members from their students mentality to that of a more responsible citizens and warned them against all forms of social vices.
The highpoint of the programme was administering of oath on the over 2,000 corps members by the State Chief Judge, Justice Ayodeji Daramola.
