Ekiti State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Social Development and Gender Empowerment, Mrs. Fola Richie-Adewusi has assured that the Fayemi led administration will continue to train women in various vocations and empower them with seed funds as part of efforts to combat impediments facing women folk in the society.
Speaking at a forum in Ado Ekiti, Mrs. Richie- Adewusi said the administration accorded gender equality and women empowerment a high priority.
According to her, the state government established the State Gender and Development Policy with the aim of building a just society that is devoid of discrimination.
The Commissioner highlighted the focus of the administration to include harnessing the potentials of all social groups, promoting human rights and protecting the well-being of the citizens.
She stressed that the Gender Based Violence (prohibition) Law that was enacted in the state in 2011 was to stem the tide of violence against women, enhance their rights and ensure their protection as well as create an enabling environment for all to thrive.
Mrs. Richie-Adewusi added that her ministry in collaboration with the office of the wife of the Governor also initiated a bill on equal opportunity to mitigate barriers against social mobility and equal opportunities among Ekiti people.
She solicited the support and prayers of all stakeholders in order to achieve success of the administration in the task of making life more meaningful for the people.
