The Ekiti State Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Eniola Ajayi has urged stakeholders in the environment sector to complement the efforts of the state government at ensuring a clean ,safe and sustainable environment for Ekiti people.
Dr. Ajayi who made the plea in Ado-Ekiti during a meeting with the Caretaker Chairmen and Sanitation Officers in the 16 Local Government Areas of the state, charged them to take into cognisance the climate change that is presently happening around the world.
She implored the stakeholders to educate the people at the grassroots to preserve trees in the forest and guide against illegal operations in the state forest reserves.
The Commissioner advised them to cultivate the culture of planting trees in their environment and in open spaces as part of concerted efforts to sustain the environment.
In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Omobolanle Fakunle enjoined the officers to spread the slogan of “one house, one toilet, one house, one tree” in their various local councils.
Responding on behalf of other participants, Mr. Oluwagbemileke Itadare from Ekiti West Local Government Area expressed the readiness of the officers to cooperate with the state government in ensuring a beautiful and attractive environment across the state.
